In 2010, it seems that no group of land owners or area of property rights is not under attack or targeted by new regulatory proposals. Property owners should recognize this erosion is occurring for three reasons: 1) Culturally, citizens are forgetting the historical importance of private property rights as a guardian of individual freedom and economic prosperity, 2) Increasingly, we are electing candidates to office who value government regulation above the protection of individual rights and freedoms, and 3) Well-funded special interests groups actively lobby for regulations which diminish your rights. CPR works to assist land owners who may be facing limitations on their freedom to use their land relative to: - Individual Homeowner Issues
- Agricultural Property Issues
- Rural Land Owner Issues (including the right of conversion)
- Zoning or Future Land Use Labeling
- General Permitting Issues
- Eminent Domain
- Enforcement of Trespass Laws
- Endangered Species Regulations
- Historical District Regulations
- NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard activists)
- Property Taxation
This is by no means a comprehensive list, as local, state and federal government entities are quite creative in abusing private property rights. For more information about CPR's work and the issues we tackle, please contact our Orlando office at 407-481-2289.
Private Homeowner Issues Private property ownership is the bedrock upon which the free enterprise system is built, and home ownership is the bulwark of stable and safe neighborhoods.
Eminent Domain While the government does have the power to take property from citizens, there are constitutional and statutory guidelines which protect most property owners.
Payment In Lieu of Taxes We support the federal McInnis bill to fully reimburse counties for tax-exempt federal lands.
Lower Taxes and Cut Regulations Lower taxes increase ownership opportunities and stimulate economic growth.
